Why exercise outdoors?

Exercise outdoors is invigorating. There is no better way than to train outside in the warmth of the summer sun.
According to the NHS, training outdoors burns more calories than indoor exercise by up to 20 percent!
Sunlight helps your body produce vital Vitamin D, which helps to maintain bone strength, retain calcium and of course, it makes your skin look radiant and glowing!
Trying new exercises like working out with the gym tyre is a way to break the monotony of your usual gym routine and increase the variety of your workouts.

Sunlight is a natural anti-depressant and in the wintertime it’s an antidote to the winter blues. It can help to ward off anxiety and boosts mood-enhancing hormones.
Outdoor exercise, especially in the stunning grounds of our Weybridge location, has a feeling of being at one with nature.
And unlike solo cycling or jogging, the outdoor gym provides increased chances to meet new people and make friends.

Tips for exercising outdoors

  • As with any form of exercise, it’s wise to consult a doctor before beginning.
  • Sun protection: even in overcast weather it’s possible for UV rays to causing burning. If in doubt, always wear sun protection of at least factor 30 and reapply it regularly throughout your session.
  • Don’t overdo it. Always stop immediately if you feel any pain or if you feel unwell. Seek assistance from a member of staff if you start to feel unwell.
  • Sip water. Keep your body hydrated. Drink as you feel thirsty. Don’t overdrink, just keep sipping water regularly.
  • Wear good quality, supportive training or running shoes. It’s always worth talking to one of our personal trainers about the best shoes and clothing for your style of exercise.
  • If in doubt, ask!

DAREN ISMAY

Personal Trainer

I have been involved in most sports at most levels for more than 30 years, and as I have become older and more experienced, I have recognised the major benefits of functional strength and conditioning. I use these formats in my own training and aim to tailor this for my clients, to ensure they are fit for the life they want to live.
Having been qualified as a Personal Trainer for more than 10 years, and coached individuals and groups for running, swimming and triathlons, I have also worked with a lot of clients seeking to simply become the best version of themselves.
My wish as a trainer is to see my clients enjoy their training, achieve their goals, but more than anything to benefit from being healthy for everyday life. As a client, you can expect varied sessions, focusing on individual needs, but specific to your goals. In addition, we would look holistically at the goal, and in turn ensure that nutrition, work/life balance, and wellness generally are a part of the overall programme. My overall aim is to leave my client feeling energised, happy and positive, enjoying the journey we are embarking on.
