HYROX has exploded across the UK in recent years, drawing tens of thousands of athletes into the world of functional fitness racing. Events are filing arenas up and down the country, with London alone welcoming over 12,000 competitors last season, a clear sign that HYROX is no longer just a niche challenge, but a nationwide movement. Its appeal spans generations, attracting a balanced mix of men and women and offers an inclusive way to combine endurance and strength training in a truly competitive yet welcoming environment.
Fuelled by the power of social media, HYROX has become one of the UK’ most talked-about fitness trends. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have amplified its competitive spirit and community feel, inspiring thousands to take part.
In this feature, we explore how St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club, an affiliated HYROX training club, is shaping that movement locally in Weybridge, offering specialist classes, expert coaching and a space where competition meets community.
What is HYROX?
HYROX combines eight functional movement stations completed by 1km running segments. The fitness stations include a 1,000m ski erg, 50m sled push and 50m sled pull, an 80m burpee broad jump, 1,000m rowing machine workout, 200m kettlebell farmers carry, 100m sandbag lunges exercise and a 100 wall balls workout.
The race tests both running endurance and strength across a variety of movements, with different weight and distance standards for men, women and divisions like Pro, Open and Teams.
How much does HYROX cost? The entry fee for a HYROX affiliated event varies but can range from around £100 to over £200.

Why HYROX training is growing at STGHLTC?
Over the past year we have seen a surge in demand for HYROX training, with members increasingly drawn to the mix of challenge, variety and community it offers.
Part of the appeal lies in the flexibility of HYROX itself, whether taking part in group classes, training individually or competing in relay formats, there’s something for every fitness level.
A large number of our personal trainers are also certified HYROX trainers who regularly participate in events themselves, bringing first-hand experience, up-to-date knowledge and genuine passion to every session. Their involvement in the wider HYROX community ensures our members benefit from expert coaching, practical insights, and the motivation that comes from training with those who truly understand the sport.
