Why play squash?

It was invented in England in the 1800s and by the 1900s the rules had been formalised and the popularity of the game was growing. There was even a squash court on the HMS Titanic! Today, squash is played by 20 million people around the world.

There’s nothing quite like squash for an adrenaline rush. It’s a fantastic way to take some time out of your daily life, blow off steam, get fit and stay on the ball. The competitive element of squash is a healthy way of building discipline and confidence.

Squash is a fantastic game for strength and cardiovascular health. You can burn an estimated 600-1000 calories per hour playing squash. It’s also great for conditioning the upper body, arms and strengthening legs. Good for balance, hand-eye co-ordination.

RUUDI CLARKE

Squash Professional

I’ve been playing in the Surrey cup since the age of 14 and in the past have represented my school in the national finals at U15 and U17 age groups. Currently I represent Colets 1st team in the Surrey cup.
In addition to my squash achievements, I was also in the Queens Park Rangers football academy from the ages of 8-19, although a different sport the experience and knowledge of competing at a high level and understanding the player journey from beginner to elite has been easily transferable.
Away from the court I enjoy Football, Tennis and going deep sea fishing in Tobago

For every session, the main goal is to enjoy it!

I have coached for the past ten years at St. George’s Hill after retiring from the professional squash circuit in 2010. I represented England as a junior and was European junior individual and team champion. I played the senior World circuit for twelve years and reached a career high ranking of 18. I also represented England as a senior and was European team champion.

Make every minute you spend on court count. It is better to fully engage for thirty minutes than have a half hearted sixty minute session….”Don’t count the days, make the days count!!”
